Lea Flores Photography and The Boudoir Suite is so very happy to announce a new partnership with the company USBMemoryDirect. A company that provides customizable flash drives to small and big businesses alike! I am very excited to be onboard with this very innovative company and excited to get some of these beautiful made flash drives into the hands of my clients. They have even customized a very special design just for me and my business and can also do the same for you. I'm in love.
With that being said I know the first question from my clients are going to be, wait aren't you a print artist and doesn't this go against what you have preached for so long? Here is a semi short answer to that, also let climb up on my soap box for just a moment. Yes I am.
Did you know that we are called the lost age? We are called the lost age because we are taking millions and millions of pictures everyday around the world and 86 percent of those photos will never see print. Here is what this looks like. We take a picture, share it, delete and make room for more.Just like that, your history is gone. Now while this is all great for that "gotta share that now moment," in the log spectrum of things, we will lose this memory for good if we don't save it, or print it. We cannot put all of our hope into the vast forum of facebook in hopes that it will never go away. if the thought of facebook going away scares you, the thought of all those memories you have there, that diary you rely on so much just vanishing, this is where you really need to start thinking about your legacy and what you are doing to preserve it.
I created a family heirloom a few years back. A very large print of my family that I could pass down to my kids and that would also give others a glimpse of who we once were when we are long gone. I did this with intention and for two reasons. One, I really needed to make sure that I was practicing what i preach as a photographer who prints and two, I was so very inspired after leaving my grandparents home in georgia.
Let me tell you a little bit about my family and the legacy that we have. there is a 7 generation old colonial home in georgia that has been passed down again and again to the men in my family. my family has done a very good job of preserving our history over time by keeping the majority of the items found in that home original to include the prints of ancestors passed on the wall. I remember walking through the home and staring at each individual picture. Some of my great, great grandparents, first, second, third, fourth and fifth cousins and so forth. I stared deeply into the beautiful prints, wondering who they were, what kind of life they lived, what secrets they held behind their eyes. I also realized in that moment, had these pictures not been there, I'm not sure i would have ever even thought of these individuals.
We are here for only a short time. We too have a legacy to leave behind. You need not be famous to have an interesting story to tell. We all have stories to tell. How will people remember you when facebook and instagram is long gone? What do you have now hanging on your wall that your kids can stare at and admire should you leave this earth today? When is the last time you have been photographed? Do you have an updated professional portrait on your wall?
You see, here is the great thing about being a print artist. I choose to provide my clients with a tangible piece of history. Not only that, i can also give them the power of digital on a device like this to share and store away as insurance. I have now given my clients a legacy to leave behind while also giving them the option of being able to share their photos in this digital world. I am very excited to be able to offer both of these invaluable products to my clients.
Very Special thank you to Mr. Lionel with Lions Pride Framing Fountain Colorado for providing the housing and frame for my heirloom piece. This is one of my most prized photos.
Also thank you to Godecs in Colorado Springs Colorado for keeping the power of a print alive with what you all do!
